The pilot program, pre-filing agreement, for large and mid-size businesses started last year will be made permanent beginning in 2001. The PFA presents issues to the IRS before the businesses file their tax returns. This not only helps the businesses file a proper tax return but also saves a lot of paperwork at IRS that would result if the issues facing the businesses were not addressed and resolved.
Last year any controversy resulting from misunderstanding of the tax codes was resolved early on before the tax returns were filed for the businesses. PFAs pilot program last year not only provided a voice for the taxpayers to address individual issues pertaining to their particular situations but also saved money by cutting down on the resources at IRS.
Taxpayers should include specific information about their business and the issue that is affecting them when contacting IRS to apply for the PFA program.
